Faculty and Leadership
The Academy is a unique academic institution, bringing together faculty and leadership from across USC schools to create cross-disciplinary curricula. Our faculty drive the innovation of our programs, bringing expertise and knowledge from diverse backgrounds. Together, they have formed the Design@USC team that develops and leads online courses and in-person experiences.
Meet the Dean
In May of 2013, Erica Muhl was appointed as the founding executive director of the USC Iovine and Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, which welcomed its first freshman class in fall 2014. Simultaneously, she serves as the dean of the USC Roski School of Art and Design. Prior to the Academy and Roski, she served as associate dean of the USC Thornton School of Music. Muhl joined USC in 1991 as Assistant Professor of Composition in the Thornton School, receiving tenure in 1997 and promoted to full professor in 2004. She now holds a dual appointment as Professor of Fine Arts and Composition.
With the ever-evolving nature of information and technology, artists and innovators exist in a symbiotic relationship. Muhl has remained a committed leader in education, innovation and reform. She has been a catalyst for creativity, inspiring students and faculty alike.
